Simone Nieweg (* 1962 in Bielefeld ) is a German photographer from the Düsseldorf School of Photography .

life and work

Simone Nieweg studied photography with Bernd Becher from 1984 to 1990 at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf . She completed her studies as his master class student. She belongs to the second generation of Becher students.

Simone Nieweg photographs nature. Her motifs appear calm and rural: arable land, meadows, allotments, grain fields, vegetable patches - there are also pumpkins, savoy cabbage and turnips. Garden fences and garden sheds also occur. You don't find people in their photographs.

"Everything in Simone Nieweg's photographs seems known and familiar from multiple encounters. Nevertheless, things shine in a special presence that is otherwise alien to us. Because by re-adjusting the view of the visible world, the constant flow of known phenomena is suddenly stopped and transferred to a different order that frees him from the patterns of a routine, solely identifying perception.
