The Sinistra Critica (Critical Left) is a political association in Italy . Until December 2007 she was part of the Rifondazione Comunista party ; On the occasion of the 6th Congress, it split off from the latter on request, first as an association and later as a political movement in the Italian party landscape.
During the period within the Rifondazione Comunista, the ex- senators Luigi Malabarba and Franco Turigliatto , as well as the ex- MPs Salvatore Cannavò , Lidia Cirillo and Flavia D'Angeli were renowned figures of the movement. The official party organ is the Sinistra Critica newspaper .
Political orientation
The Sinistra Critica's political priorities are anti-capitalism , anti-fascism , feminism and ecology . The party's political actors come from different political and social contexts and have held various functions within the Rifondazione Comunista as well as in other mass movements (for example in the New Left at the beginning of the 1970s or in the Partito Comunista Italiano ). A large number of the members belong to the Bandiera Rossa , a section of the United Secretariat of the Fourth International , whose most prominent leader was Livio Maitan .
The majority in the party shared the theses of the Fifth National Congress of the Rifondazione Comunista, starting with the breach of alliance with the first Romano Prodi government and the centralist orientation.
The Sinistra Critica experienced a larger increase in membership, especially among young people, after the violent clashes at the G8 summit in Genoa .
