Felix Hauswirth

Felix Hauswirth (born November 26, 1955 in Switzerland ) is a specialist in wind music and conducting . He is the author of various publications that deal mainly with the history and literature of wind music and conducting.

Life

Hauswirth studied theory and wind orchestra conducting at the Lucerne Conservatory before moving to the USA a. a. trained with H. Robert Reynolds and Elisabeth Green . In 1983 he taught as visiting professor at the University of Michigan (Flint), USA. Since then he has been a regular guest lecturer and guest conductor at various American universities.

In 1983 Hauswirth founded the Swiss Youth Brass Orchestra and conducted this ensemble until 1993. He has been artistic director of the Baden-Württemberg Youth Symphony Orchestra since 1991, and is the permanent conductor of the Stadtmusik Zug (Switzerland) wind orchestra.

In 1985 he followed the call to the Basel University of Music (Switzerland), where he teaches wind orchestra direction. From 2004 to 2007 he also taught wind orchestra direction at the Zurich University of Music .

From 1993 to 2000 he was the artistic director of the International Festive Music Days Uster (IFMU). He is currently a lecturer in wind orchestra conducting at the Federal Academy for Musical Education in Trossingen (Germany), at the Istituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico in Trento (Italy) and, since 2008, visiting professor at the Instituto Piaget in Lisbon (Portugal).

From 1997 to 2001 Hauswirth was President of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
