Sinokannemeyeria was a dicynodontic animal thatlivedin the Lower Triassic . So far, specimens have only been found in China .
features
Sinokannemeyeria reached up to three meters in length and 500 kilograms in weight. The legs were muscular and heavily built and did not allow fast running. The front legs were well suited for digging with which the animal in the soil by plants and tubers could seek. It had short tusks which likely played a role in mating battles. In contrast to other dicynodontists, the masseter muscles were not as pronounced.
Systematics
The therapsids were a large family of reptiles that exhibited mammalian characteristics. Hence they were called mammal-like reptiles . Sinokannemeyeria belonged to the Anomodontia , a subclass of the Therapsids. Anomodontia were mostly relatively large animals that became extinct in the Lower Jurassic and lived exclusively on herbivores . Sinokannemeyeria is placed in the group of the Kannemeyeriidae , to which well-known representatives such as Placerias belonged.
