Sispony is a small town in the Principality of Andorra , it belongs to the parish of La Massana . In 2013 the place had 1060 inhabitants. Sispony is located at an altitude of 1315 meters above sea level on Carretera general 3 .

history

The settlement is first mentioned in historical records in 1162. Sispony became known through the Andorran families who started the first large-scale tobacco cultivation there at the beginning of the 17th century. The tobacco was processed in the Andorran Reig cigar factory . With the onset of mass tourism, tobacco cultivation in Andorra was largely reduced around 1990 and cigar production in Andorra was abandoned. Today, however, tobacco is still grown in Sispony, which is exported to Spain to the Reig factory of the same name, where it is further processed into cigars. The former residence of the Casa Rull de Sispony family is now a museum.
