The Sisu A-45 is a truck introduced in 1970 by the Finnish vehicle manufacturer Suomen Autoteollisuus (SAT). The two-axle, all-wheel-drive truck with a payload of 4150 kg is the successor to the almost identical Sisu KB-45 , which was developed for the Finnish armed forces.

Technically, the A-45 is based on its predecessor KB-45. The most important difference is the axes, as the Kirkstall axes on the A-45 have been replaced by SAT axes.

Production and use

The predecessor KB-45 was still produced in the SAT factory in Karis. In 1969 SAT merged with Vanajan Autotehdas (VAT), after which production of the A-45 was relocated to the old VAT factory in Hämeenlinna. For capacity reasons, however, some A-45s were still manufactured in Karis.

Like the KB-45, the A-45 was also called "Proto", which was derived from prototyyppi (prototype).

The "protos" have been replaced by the new Sisu A2045 in the Finnish armed forces.

Technical specifications

engine

The engine is a six-cylinder in-line diesel with direct injection. The naturally aspirated engine has an output of 103 kW with a torque of 393 Nm. The more powerful version is equipped with a turbocharger and has a maximum output of 110 kW and 468 Nm of torque.

Transmission and chassis

The two axles are driven by a fully synchronized five-speed gearbox and a two-speed reduction gearbox. Both axles are also equipped with planetary gears and lockable differentials. Both axles are equipped with longitudinal leaf springs; the front axle also has shock absorbers. The pneumatic handbrake acts on the rear axle.

The steering is supported by a hydraulic servo. The tire size on both axles is 14.5–20 "with single tires. The tank capacity is 210 liters. The electrical system has 840 watts and 24 volts with two 145 Ah batteries. There is a trailer hitch at the rear. The standard accessories include, among other things a cable winch with a capacity of 6.5 tons and a steel part length of 60 meters, which can be used both at the front and at the rear.

Cabin and loading area

The cabin is made of steel and GRP. The roof is removable. All windows are made of safety glass and the side windows and the windshield can be opened. There are seats for the driver and two passengers; the driver's seat is adjustable. The extensive instrument panel includes a tachometer.

The loading platform frame is made of steel and the floor is made of plastic-impregnated wood. Access is from the stern. The loading area is equipped with a removable tarpaulin.

properties

The largest payload is 4,150 kg and the trailer may have a maximum of 4,000 kg on the road and on flat terrain. In difficult terrain, the maximum payload is limited to 2,500 kg and the trailer load to 2,000 kg. The turning radius is 7 m. Both the maximum climbing ability and the lateral movement are 38 °. The ground clearance is 340 mm.

variants

Like the KB-45, there is also an A-45 variant with the Sisu Nemo transmission system for a hydraulically driven trailer. These vehicles are called the AH-45 . The hydraulic system increases the transport performance so that the maximum weight of a single-axle trailer can be 8,000 kg and that of a two-axle trailer 12,000 kg.
