Sisu Auto is a Finnish manufacturer of heavy trucks . The company got its name from the Finnish word sisu , which roughly means “strength”, “perseverance” or “perseverance” and is an important identity-building concept in Finland. Sisu trucks are rarely found in Central Europe . The main market for the heavy, powerful vehicles is in Scandinavia and Russia . Sisu also has a military division ( Sisu Defense ) that produces tactical vehicles .

history

The Sisu company was founded in 1931 by Tor Nessling . In 1943, on the initiative of the Finnish Army , the Yhteissisu company was given the license rights to produce Sisu for 5 years in order to secure truck production during the war. In 1948 the two companies separated again. Leyland engines were used from the 1950s, and Rolls Royce engines were added in the 1970s . When the Finnish state became the new majority owner in 1974, the engines were gradually replaced by Cummins engines. In 1997 an agreement was made to work with Renault Trucks . In the same year Partek acquired a majority stake in Sisu. The diesel engines were usually from Renault or Caterpillar . In 2002 Partek, and thus also Sisu, was sold to the Kone company. Since the truck business did not fit the company profile of the new owner, Sisu was sold to a Finnish investment group, which founded a new holding company called Suomen Autoteollisuus Oy . Since then, Sisu has only been based in Finland with private capital. Sisu has been working closely with Daimler AG since December 2010 . In the current Timber and Rock model series, the driver's cab, gearbox and engines from the current Mercedes-Benz Actros series are installed. They achieve an output of 350 to 440 kW .

From 2006 to 2010, the Schuller company in Mengkofen, Lower Bavaria, sold the Sisu trucks in Germany. In Switzerland, Sisu trucks were sold by the Windlin company in Kriens .
