The Tax Agency is since 1 January 2004, the Swedish tax authority , which is responsible for both the financial and tax administration as well as the administrative authority acts. Before 2004 the authority was called Skattemyndigheten . The official German name is: Swedish Central Finance Office.

Tasks, in addition to tax collection , are the administration of the estate register , the Folkbokföring and, since January 2008, the supervision of state claims . Since January 2019 Tax Agency is also responsible for the collection of broadcast tax ( avgift service-public ) are responsible. The Skatteverket was formed from the ten previously existing tax authorities and the Reich Tax Office ( Riksskatteverket, RSV ). Around 11,500 people are employed, 380 of them at the headquarters in Solna . Further branches exist in all seven "regions" of the Skatteverket, in every major city.
