Der Skeptiker is a journal published by the Society for the Scientific Investigation of Parasciences since May 1987 . It appears quarterly, costs 7 € and currently has 2,500 subscribers according to its own information (as of 2017). The skeptic is distributed in print and e-paper . Inge Hüsgen is the editorial manager , Bernd Harder is the chief reporter .

content

The main topics include the scientific-critical consideration of esotericism , conspiracy theories , pseudosciences and alternative medical treatment methods and products. Various current topics are discussed from a scientific point of view. Expert interviews, portraits of personalities from among the skeptics, reports on the activities of the GWUP and book reviews are also included.

history

The forerunner of the GWUP, the Working Group of Skeptics for the Study of Pseudosciences and the Occult (ASUPO) published a bulletin in May 1987. The content of this Issue 1 of the  Skeptiker was strongly influenced by the impending establishment of an association under the name GWUP in October of the same year. This first issue also contained a contribution by Carl Sagan and the subjects of Occam's razors , fire walking and earth rays .

In 2007, the skeptic had 1,500 subscribers. The layout was revised in 2009 and 2014. The magazine has also been published as an e-paper since 2013.

Special issues

  • Special issue 2020 - The virus of the conspiracy theory , on the occasion of the COVID-19 pandemic , Bernd Hader looked at current conspiracy theories about Corona and their backgrounds and bundled previous knowledge about the phenomenon
