Sky-Watcher is one of the world's largest manufacturers of telescopes and astronomical accessories such as eyepieces and mounts .

The company was founded in 1988 as Synta Optics, initially only eyepieces were produced. In 1992 the company's headquarters were relocated to Suzhou in China; The first telescopes (114 mm Newtonian reflectors ) were sold by Celestron and Tasco, and the following year the first refractors were also manufactured. In 1999 the brand "Sky-Watcher" was founded, which is based in Richmond , Canada, in order to sell Synta-Optiken under its own label. Since 2000, the range has been expanded to include Dobsonians , the following year the first Maksutov-Cassegrain was produced, and in 2004 the first ED apochromat . In 2005 a US subsidiary of Synta Optics bought the telescope manufacturer Celestron. Since 2008 there has been a cooperation with Schott AG Mainz , one of the world's leading manufacturers of technical glasses.

The Sky-Watcher product range includes amateur telescopes with an aperture of 60 mm to 508 mm that are manual, motorized or mounted with GoTo . Since 2008 Sky-Watcher has been the only manufacturer in the world to produce the FlexTube Dobsonians with a collapsible tube, a patented design.
