Skyfire was a web browser for smartphones and tablet computers that was developed for the Android and iOS operating systems . The versions for Windows Mobile and Symbian were discontinued on December 31, 2010, the Android version in 2014 after the company Skyfire Labs was sold to Opera Software ASA (now Otello Corporation ASA) in 2013. The former Skyfire company now operates as a subsidiary of Otello under the RocketColony brand .

The browser used the free HTML rendering library WebKit .
Up to version 1.5
The client on the cell phone did not send its inquiries directly to the desired site, but to the manufacturer's proxy server . The pages were rendered on the server with the Firefox browser and then transferred to the mobile phone as images. Content that requires plug-ins (e.g. Flash , Java ) could also be used in this way.
From version 2.0
As of version 2.0, a proxy server was not used and the browser now sends its queries directly to the desired server. Flash videos were converted to HTML5 video by the proxy server and at the same time reduce the amount of data by up to 75 percent.
Flash on the iPhone
The browser received a lot of attention because it could play Flash on the iPhone.
Five hours after version 2.0 was published in the App Store , it had to be withdrawn because the great demand for the flash function was very busy on the servers. The software was marked as “sold out” in the store. It should be available again as soon as the server capacities are expanded.
