Dolné Saliby (Hungarian Alsószeli ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube lowlands , 116 meters above sea level, 10 km southeast of Galanta .

Catholic Church

history

The place was first mentioned in 1217, from 1492 as Alsószeli . In the Middle Ages , the former village of Berény was next to it . Since 1246 the community briefly belonged to Heiligenkreuz Abbey . According to the deed of Charles I Robert , the village was donated to the Kacsics family in 1313.

In 1910 Dolné Saliby had 2,148 predominantly Hungarian inhabitants. The municipality belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary in Pressburg County until 1918 . After the end of the First World War it came to Czechoslovakia as a result of the Treaty of Trianon , and from 1938 to 1945 the village again belonged to Hungary as a result of the First Vienna Arbitration . After the end of the Second World War , Dolné Saliby again belonged to Czechoslovakia, and from 1993 to Slovakia . According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1921 inhabitants (1500 Hungarians, 414 Slovaks). Until 1960, the now independent village Dolný Chotár , located 18 kilometers to the south, belonged to the municipality.
