Šintava (German Schintau , Hungarian Sempte ) is a municipality in Okres Galanta in Trnavský kraj in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube plain in the left bank of the Waag floodplains opposite the city of Sereď at an altitude of about 135 meters.
history
The place appears by name on a list in 1177, which also includes the Šintava Castle . The initially royal castle was of great importance for Hungary and later fell into the hands of the Rozgonyi , Thurzo and Esterházy families (from 1642). Due to the change in the course of the river Waag, the castle is now located in a park in Sereď, it fell into disrepair over the centuries and was replaced by a classical fort.
In 1622 the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary met in Schintau, which set up a consistory based in Schintau for the "across the Danube" (i.e. east of the Danube) parts of the country .
In 1957 the newly formed municipality Vinohrady nad Váhom was spun off from parts of the municipality .
Worth seeing in the village is the catholic church from the 18th century, which was built at that time instead of an older complex.
