Matúškovo (Slovak until 1948 "Takšoň"; Hungarian Taksonyfalva - until 1907 Taksony ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube lowlands , 118 meters above sea level, 3 km south of Galanta .
history
Its name comes from the Hungarian Grand Duke Taksony , who was buried here according to the old traditions. The place was first mentioned in 1138 in the document of Béla II as terra civilium Posoniensium de villa Tocsun . His chapel from the 13th century is mentioned in Codex Pray . For a long time it belonged to the rule of the Pressburg Castle , the inhabitants, who were mainly active in agriculture, were mostly Hungarians. In the Middle Ages next to her was a former village, mentioned in writing in 1138 as villa Wduory . The Slovak place name, which is derived from the Hungarian name of the place, was changed in 1948, like many others, to a Slavic sounding one, with Janko Matúška , a companion of Ľudovít Štúr , serving as the namesake. As early as 1936, the village of Štefánikovo (now part of Galanta as the Javorinka district ) , which was founded in 1921 by Slovak settlers in the town hall, became independent from the municipality, in 1971 the town itself lost its independence and was incorporated into the town of Galanta, in 1990 this decision was made but again undone.
In 1910, 1845 had mostly Hungarian residents. The municipality belonged to Austria-Hungary until 1918 . After the end of the First World War , according to the Treaty of Trianon , it came to Czechoslovakia , from 1938 to 1945, according to the First Vienna Arbitration, it again belonged to Hungary. After the end of the Second World War it again belonged to Czechoslovakia, or from 1993 to Slovakia . According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1880 inhabitants.
