Šalgočka (until 1927 Slovak "Šalgočka" or "Šalgovka"; Hungarian Salgócska ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 467 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Galanta of, part kraj Trnavský heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands on the southwestern edge of its part Nitrianska pahorkatina ( Neutra hill country ). Within this region it lies in the gentle valley of the Jarčie stream . The center of the village is at an altitude of 150  m nm and is 13 kilometers from Hlohovec , 14 kilometers from Sereď and 24 kilometers from Galanta .

Neighboring municipalities are Dvorníky in the west and north, Sasinkovo in the northeast and Zemianske Sady in the south.

history

Šalgočka was first mentioned in writing in 1248 as Salgo and was initially part of the estate of Freistadt (today Hlohovec). From the 15th century the place was owned by families such as Dávid , Dezasse , Sándor , Appel and Desewffy . In 1828 there were 41 houses and 287 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture and viticulture.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Šalgočka had 437 inhabitants, of whom 423 were Slovaks and two Germans, Magyars and Roma. Eight residents made no statement. 351 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 30 residents had no denomination and 41 residents had no denomination.
