Vozokany (until 1927 in Slovak "Vezekény"; in Hungarian Pozsonyvezekény - until 1907 Vezekény ) is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Danube lowlands on the connecting road between Galanta and Dunajská Streda on the course of the Čierna voda ("black water").
The first documentary mention falls in the year 1297. In 1300 the place was listed as the property of Dominik, a son of the Bartolomejan family.
At the beginning of the 15th century Vozokany belonged to the dominion of the Šintava Castle , in the 16th century it belonged to members of the noble families Rozgonyi, Kanizsai and Thurzos. From 1636 it was owned by the Esterházy family .
The place is mainly characterized by agriculture, but fishing and hunting are also practiced. There is a church in the village from 1718, which burned down in a fire in 1923.
Until 1918 Vozokany in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , the place briefly came back to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993.
The name of the place is derived from the Turkish word bazäkän , which means something like "little ornament".
