Váhovce (until 1927 Slovak "Vágovce"; Hungarian Vága ) is a municipality and a town in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 2,095 (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Galanta , a circle of kraj Trnavský .
The majority of the local population are Hungarians, followed by a Slovak minority.
geography
Váhovce is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands , more precisely in the Danube hill country on the right bank of the Váh , stowed here in the Kráľová reservoir . The center is five kilometers from Sereď , nine kilometers from Galanta and 22 kilometers from Trnava .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1259 as Vaga . It belonged to the estate of the Archdiocese of Gran (Esztergom) since the early 14th century and remained in the Kingdom of Hungary until serfdom was abolished. The first mills are also mentioned at the same time. During the Turkish wars, the place was almost completely destroyed. In 1869 it had 1,644 inhabitants.
After 1918 the place in Pressburg County became part of Czechoslovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again part of Hungary from 1938-45.
