Veľké Úľany (until 1948 in Slovak "Veľký Fedymeš"; in Hungarian Nagyfödémes ) is a municipality in western Slovakia .
location
It is located in the Danube lowlands between the Malý Dunaj and Čierna voda rivers , about 12 km from Galanta .
In addition to the main town, the municipality also includes the Nové Osady settlement (spun off in 1936, reincorporated in 1976)
history
The place was first mentioned in 1221 as Fudemus .
Veľké Úľany in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , the place briefly came back to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993.
Attractions
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael the Archangel from the 16th and 17th centuries is well worth seeing. Century, a Protestant church from 1958 and a calvary with a chapel from 1756. There is also the small Modrá Perla swimming pool in the village .
In 2001, Hungarians made up the majority of the population with 71 percent, while Slovaks make up 28 percent of the population.
