geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands , roughly on the line between its sub-units Danube Plain and Danube Hills . history

According to archaeological studies, settlement in what is now the municipality goes back to the Neolithic Age. In the district of Poroské, the remains of a settlement from the early Middle Ages were discovered shortly before the creation of Greater Moravia .

The place itself was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1221 in a document from the Hungarian King Andreas II as villa Fudemus . It was a royal settlement in which royal beekeepers lived and which was in the territory of the Pressburg Castle . The name comes from the old Hungarian word födém (= beehive), which is also included in the name of three other places in Slovakia in the Slovak name form Úľany . Due to the medieval presence of German residents, the name Némethfödémes (Hungarian 'német' = German) is documented in the 15th century .

However, the place suffered a decline in population in the 16th century as a result of a plague epidemic after 1520 as well as pillage by various lords in the Turkish wars . Only in the 18th century did the situation stabilize and the place now known as Pusztafödémes belonged to various noble families, of which Zichy was the most influential. In 1864 there are 1208 inhabitants.

Until 1918, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
