Kajal (to 1927 Slovak "Zemansky Kajal", Hungarian Nemes Kajal - until 1907 Kajal ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,521 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Galanta , part of kraj Trnavský belongs.

geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands , more precisely in its flat part . The built-up part is almost completely surrounded by various streams and canals. The municipal area extends in the east to the Kráľová reservoir on the Waag and is covered by floodplain or black soils. The town center is located at an altitude of 117  m nm and is six kilometers from Galanta and seven kilometers from Šaľa .

Neighboring municipalities are Váhovce in the north, Šoporňa in the northeast (separated by the reservoir), Kráľová nad Váhom in the east, Topoľnica in the south and Galanta in the west and northwest.

history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1297 as Quayol and belonged to different families from the lower nobility. In 1828 there were 175 houses and 1250 inhabitants, who were mainly employed in agriculture.

Until 1918, the place in Pressburg County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic there were frequent strikes by agricultural workers, for example in 1920, 1928, 1929, 1931 and 1932. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , the place was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

The former village and today's settlement Únovce (Hungarian Úny ), first mentioned in 1251 as Own, belongs to the municipality .

According to the 2011 census, Kajal had 1,499 inhabitants, including 891 Magyars, 496 Slovaks, eleven Roma, four Czechs, three Germans and three Ukrainians, two Russians and one Croat. 88 residents gave no answer. 1067 residents belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, 92 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents to the Greek Catholic Church, six residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to Jehovah's Witnesses, three residents to the Seventh-day Adventists, two residents each to the Evangelistic Church and the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Jewish community and to the New Apostolic Church; twelve residents were of other denominations. 178 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 123 inhabitants has not been determined.

Infrastructure and traffic

The basic infrastructure is well developed except for the cable television network, there are water and gas pipes, sewerage and connection to a sewage treatment plant. Kajal is also the location of a kindergarten and a Hungarian-language elementary school (up to fourth grade) and there is a post office. Road No. 75 runs south of the village, and there is a connection to the Bratislava – Budapest railway in Topoľnica (stop) or in Galanta and Šaľa (train station).
