Mór Than
Mór Than (born June 19, 1828 in Óbecse (Alt-Becse) in Bács County (southern Hungary), † March 11, 1899 in Trieste ) was a Hungarian painter.
Than first studied law, then turned to painting, took part in the fights of 1849 and continued his studies at the Vienna Academy, later with Rahl.
After traveling through Germany and Belgium, he painted the Battle of Mohács in Paris in 1856 (1526) . He then lived in Rome for three years , doing several pictures for Baron Sina ( Odysseus and Nausicaa , Odysseus and Penthesilea ) and in 1859 was commissioned to create a mural depicting the reunification of the king's son with the magical Helen in the Redoutensaal at Pest , where he settled down permanently.
Since then he has created a large number of altar paintings, portraits (including that of the Emperor of Austria for the great hall of the new library building) and historical pictures (Angelica and Medor, love of the Fata Morgana ) as well as with Lotz wall paintings and a frieze (from the history of Hungary) in the stairwell of the National Museum of Pest .
