Slab Island (from English slab , tile, stone slab ' ) is a small island in the Wilkins Ice Shelf west of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It is located in front of the eastern end of the Wagner-Piedmont glacier on Rothschild Island .
British cartographers mapped them based on surveys of the British Antarctic Survey from 1970 and 1971, Landsat recordings in January 1974. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it 1980 descriptively. It is named after granitic rocky outcrops with a leaf-like surface structure, which seem to be joined together.
