Slatersville is a village and a US Registered Historic District within the city of North Smithfield in Rhode Island , United States , on the Branch River .

Slatersville was founded in 1803 by entrepreneurs Samuel and John Slater , who bought land there to set up a textile factory. In the period that followed, a small town emerged. Many of the houses were built in the first half of the 19th century, giving you a taste of historic New England today . The place remained in the possession of the Slater family until 1900 when it was sold.

The original factory building burned down in 1826 and was then replaced by the structure that still exists today.
