Slave Labor Graphics , or simply SLG , is an American Independent - comic book publisher based in San Jose , California.

history

The publishing house was founded in 1986 by Dan Vado, who still runs SLG today. From the beginning, the independent publisher had set itself the goal of publishing comics and graphic novels independently and apart from the mainstream . In the more than 20 years of its existence, Slave Labor Graphics has been able to conquer an established customer base and a firm place in the US comic market. The publishing house publishes the comics by well-known draftsmen and authors, but also relies heavily on newcomers.

The first comic to be published by SLG in 1986 was Shadow Star # 3 , the first great success came in the first year with Samurai Penguin # 1 by Dan and Mark Buck. With a few exceptions, the first published titles were created by friends and acquaintances Vados. Until the mid-1990s, however, SLG remained a small niche publisher. Successful titles published by SLG increased in the following years. In 2005 the publisher entered into a cooperation with the Walt Disney Company , which from now on publishes some Disney comic series. The comics from SLG, mostly alternative comics , often offer a dark and bizarre black humor and are mainly aimed at adult readers.

The most successful and popular artists and authors who work for Slave Labor Graphics today include Roman Dirge ( Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl , Munsters in My Tummy ), Jhonen Vasquez ( Johnny the Homicidal Maniac , Squee! ), Serena Valentino ( Nightmares & Fairy Tales , Gloom Cookie ), Crab Scrambly ( The 13th of Never ), Evan Dorkin ( Milk & Cheese ) or FSc (Foo Swee Chin).
