Mount Slemish ( ir. Sliabh Mis ) is the remnant of an extinct volcano near Ballymena in County Antrim in Northern Ireland . Its height is 437 m.
Its special appearance - its upper part is very steep and rugged in contrast to the flat fields in the foothills and the surrounding area - dominates the landscape for several kilometers in all directions.
Tradition has it that this is where Saint Patrick found his connection to God after being enslaved as a teenager, being dragged off to this area and tending herds on the Slemish.
The Slemish / Sliabh Mis should not be confused with the Sliabh Mis (Slieve Mish Mountains) on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry .
