Slobodište is a memorial for those murdered during the occupation of Yugoslavia in World War II . The memorial is located southwest of the city of Kruševac in Serbia . It consists of a park of 80 hectares with various sculptures . The memorial was realized by Bogdan Bogdanović according to a concept by Dobrica Ćosić between 1960 and 1965. The memorial is intended to commemorate the many hundreds of people murdered at this point, mostly civilians from Kruševac, but also other prisoners of war. These were executed by the Germans as part of retaliatory measures and to intimidate the civilian population there. The memorial consists of the Kapija Sunca (Sun Gate), dolina pošte (Valley of Honor) with 12 stylized stone birds and the dolina živih (Valley of the Living) with an amphitheater .
