The Slovak Aviator Badge was an activity badge of the Slovak Air Force , which was donated in January 1943 for all Slovak military pilots in World War II . In this respect, they represented the counterparts of the German pilot badge and observer badge.

Pilot badge

The approx. 45 mm high and 35 mm wide Slovak aviator badge consists of a closed linden leaf wreath . In the middle is an eagle looking down with outstretched wings. The dimensions of both eagle wings are around 35 mm and are 55 mm apart (wing tip to wing tip). The eagle itself rests on the Slovak double cross with the three mountain below . The back of the badge shows a vertical needle with a counter-hook. The foundation of the Slovak Aviator Badge took place in four versions that were there.

  • Field night pilot badge: golden eagle and wreath,
  • Field pilot observer badge: golden eagle, silver wreath,
  • Field night pilot observer badge: silver eagle, golden wreath,
  • Field pilot observer badge and field observer staffs: silver eagle and wreath.

The coat of arms on the eagle's fangs always had the color of the eagle. The pilot's badge was worn with the uniform on the left breast pocket.

Field pilot's badge

A special feature in its appearance compared to the pilot's badge is the Slovak field pilot's badge, whose eagle does not rest inside the linden wreath as usual, but instead rests on an olive wreath outside . In the middle of the badge you can also see the Slovak double cross and the three mountain. Like the pilot's badge on the left breast pocket, it was worn with all military uniforms of the Slovak Air Force.

Pilot badge for the technical staff of the Air Force

The last of the three Slovak aviator badges is the badge for the technical personnel of the Air Force , which consists of a linden leaf wreath with the Slovak coat of arms in the lower center. The badge is filled with an oversized three-bladed propeller that extends over the edges of the wreath. For professional NCOs the badge was all in silver, for officers only the propeller was silver, but the coat of arms and the wreath were gold. This badge was also worn as a cross on the left breast pocket.
