Ottfried Neubecker

Ottfried Neubecker (born March 22, 1908 in Charlottenburg ; † July 8, 1992 in Wiesbaden ) was a German heraldist and vexillologist .

Life

Ottfried Neubecker, son of the lawyer Friedrich Karl Neubecker , studied at the universities of Geneva , Heidelberg and Berlin . His heraldic career began in the 1920s.

In 1926, in the publication Die Reichseinheitsflagge , Neubecker proposed a compromise in the dispute over the German national flag with the color sequence black-gold-red. It could possibly have been a flag with a Philippus cross with this color sequence, which was also circulating as a double stand as a proposal for a new Imperial War flag .

With his work Das Deutsche Wappen 1806–1871 , Neubecker was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He was instrumental in establishing heraldry in the middle-class environment. With his publications in book form and in heraldic journals, he also took into account the scientific aspect of heraldry. From 1934 to 1945, Kurt-Gerhard Klietmann was one of the main authors of the magazine Uniformen-Markt . In 1982 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

From 1931 to 1950 Neubecker was married to the classical philologist Annemarie Jeanette Neubecker .
