Smaran Ghosal

Smaran Ghosal ( Bengali স্মরণ ঘোষাল Smaraṇ Ghoṣāl , Smaran Ghoshal ; * early 1940s; † July 10, 2008 in Kolkata ) was an Indian amateur actor . He was one of the four cast of the main character in Satyajit Ray's Apu trilogy .

Life

Ghosal played the teenage Apu in Aparajito (1956) at the age of 14 . The director Satyajit Ray also cast him in 1961 in his documentary Rabindranath Tagore in the role of the young poet Tagore .

After that, he no longer appeared in the film. He ran a travel agency and was secretary of the South Calcutta Rifle Club, where he campaigned for the sport of shooting .

Smaran Ghosal died of heart failure.
