Smart Import is an Austrian pop group from Linz .

history

The group was founded in December 1987 from the four sons of the members of the band Flamingos, with whom they performed more than 30 times in the beginning. The style of music (rock and roll of the 50s and 60s) was derived from the flamingos. The musical repertoire consisted of cover versions.

In July 1989 Johannes Schmidauer replaced the previous keyboardist Peter Postl. With this change of line-up, the musical focus was shifted more and more towards self-composed songs.

In October 1990 the band won the Golden Wave at the “International Popular Song Festival” in Bregenz. The contacts made through this success led to the production of the first CD.

In January 1992 the band received the "Distant Accord Award" from FIDOF at the MIDEM music fair in Cannes.

In 1993 the second CD "Men Without A Mission" was recorded. The renowned Austrian musician Andy Baum was involved as a producer . The first track “Man Without A Mission” ran for a few weeks on Ö3 on Powerplay.
