Smelykh Island ( English , Russian Остров Смелых Ostrow Smelych , German 'Island of the Brave' ) is an island off the Knox coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It is located in the area of the Bunger Oasis .
Soviet scientists mapped and named them in 1956. The further naming background is not known. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia translated this designation into English.
