Smoove was founded in 2008; it develops, installs and operates bicycle rental systems for communities and companies. In 2017, the company operated 8,800 bicycles with 715 rental stations for short-term rental as well as 13,000 bicycles for long-term rental in 26 cities in France and internationally. In April 2017, as a member of the Smovengo consortium, the company won a 15-year contract to operate the Velib ' system in Paris from January 1, 2018, replacing the previous operator JCDecaux .
