Snoopy Island or Snoopy Rock (because of the resemblance to the cartoon character Snoopy lying on his back ) is a small rocky island off the northern coast of the Emirate of Fujairah ( United Arab Emirates ) on the Gulf of Oman . The Arabic name is derived from the coastal town of al-ʿAqqa (al-Aqah, العقة) and thus reads Jazirat al-'Aqqa ( Arabic جزيرة العقة). The common English name is also used in the Arabic spelling, Arabic جزيرة سنوبيor Jazirat Snubi . In contrast, the German version of Snoopy Island is rarely used. At GeoNames the name Jazīrat al Ghubbah is found (the Arabic equivalent would be Arabic جزيرة الغبّة), which is otherwise hardly used either. The entry Jaz can be found on the nautical chart . al Ghubbah (19) ,, where the number in brackets stands for the height in meters.
The island is located around 180 meters from a hotel beach ( Sandy Beach Motel ) near al-ʿAqqa and measures around 100 meters in diameter.
