Snorre Serigstad Valen (born September 16, 1984 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian musician and politician of the Sosialistisk Venstreparti (SV). From 2009 to 2017 he was a member of parliament in Storting .

Politician

Snorre Valen was from 2003 to 2007 a member of the Trondheim City Council and a member of the Fylkesting of the then Sør-Trøndelag Province . In the 2009 parliamentary elections he was elected to the Norwegian national parliament Storting for the constituency of Sør-Trøndelag .

In 2015 he was appointed deputy party chairman of the SV. He has not been a member of the Norwegian parliament since September 2017, and in 2018 he announced that he would no longer stand for re-election of the deputy party chairman.

Before moving into the Norwegian Parliament, he worked for the Technical and Natural Sciences University of Norway. In 2008, he was the head of the Arbeideravisa newspaper in Trondheim, an attempt to reissue a newspaper of the Norwegian Workers' Party that was published from 1924 to 1996 .

Positions

In February 2011, he officially proposed WikiLeaks to the Nobel Institute as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize . As a justification, he said that WikiLeaks was "one of the most important contributions of this century to freedom of expression and transparency". The decision of the Nobel Prize Committee was announced in October 2011. Wikileaks did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Valen expressed criticism several times about the fact that Norway has a royal family . In January 2019 he was one of the co-initiators of a legislative proposal that would have turned Norway into a republic . The proposal was ultimately rejected by 36 votes to 130.

Musician

Snorre Valen played as a pianist and singer in the Norwegian band Gallery and later in the groups Amish 82 ( Electronica ) and Peevish Penfriend ( Blues ).
