Snyder's of Hanover is an American pretzel and potato chip manufacturer based in Hanover , Pennsylvania .
history
The company was founded in 1909 by Harry V. Warehime as the Hanover Pretzel Company . With the Hanover Olde Tyme Pretzel, Warehime only produced one type of pretzel . In 1923 the couple William and Helen Snyder opened the first plant. Their sons Edward and Bill were responsible for the entry into the potato chip production. In 1948 a second plant was opened in Berlin (Pennsylvania) .
In 1963 the company was bought by Hanover Brands . Under the name Hanover Foods , the product range was expanded to include various cakes . By 1977, however, their production was stopped again and the focus was on pretzels and potato chips. In 1981, Snyder's of Hanover became independent from Hanover Foods. In 2010 Snyder's of Hanover merged with the North Carolina -based company Lance to form Snyder's-Lance .

The company had 2003 revenues of $ 244 million. In the USA, around 72.3 million units were sold in the period from October 2003 to October 2004 and sales of $ 141.3 million were achieved (data without Wal-Mart ). This made Snyder's of Hanover the second most successful American pretzel brand after Rold Gold . In the fourth quarter of 2004, Snyder's was even able to achieve higher sales than Rold Gold.
