Hanover is a municipality in York County in the US state of Pennsylvania , 19 miles southwest of York, 54 miles north west of Baltimore , Maryland . Hanover has 14,535 residents.
history
Hanover was settled around 1730 and named after the German city of Hanover . During the American Civil War, a battle took place there on June 30, 1863, which meant that cavalry of the Confederate States of America could get to the Battle of Gettysburg with a delay . The Confederate States of America lost about 117 men. This battle went down in history as the Battle of Hanover .

According to the 2000 census, there were 14,535 residents in Hanover. 96.95% of the population were white, 0.52% African American , 2.05% Hispanics and Latinos .
