Société nationale des beaux-arts

Société nationale des beaux-arts (SNBA) was the name of two French artists' associations.

The first so-called society was founded in 1862, with Théophile Gautier as president and Aimé Millet as his deputy. Eugène Delacroix , Carrier-Belleuse and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes were part of the board . Among the exhibitors were Léon Bonnat , Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux , Charles-François Daubigny , Laura Fredducci , Gustave Doré and Édouard Manet . In 1864, after a memorial exhibition for the recently deceased Delacroix, the society ended its activities.

In 1890 the association was revived by Ernest Meissonier , and the exhibition committee now included Puvis de Chavannes, Carolus-Duran , Félix Bracquemond , Jules Dalou and Auguste Rodin . The annual exhibitions, which continue to this day, began. In 1926 the association created the Prix ​​Puvis de Chavannes , which consists of a representative special exhibition by the winner.
