The Tozeur Governorate , Arab ولاية توزر, DMG wilāyat Tauzar , is one of 24 governorates in Tunisia . It is located in the west of the country on the border with Algeria . The area covers an area of 4,719 km² and has a population of 104,800. The capital is also called Tozeur . The Gafsa governorate borders in the northeast, and the large salt lake Chott el Djerid is in the southeast .
