Tamerza ( Arabic تمغزة, DMG Tamaġza ; Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⴰⵎⵖⵣⴰ Tameɣza , also Tameghza) is a Tunisian mountain oasis near the border with Algeria , northwest of Tozeur .
It is located in the mountains of Djebel En Negueb , a southeastern foothill of the Aurès and part of the Atlas Mountains. There are other mountain oases nearby: Chebika in the southeast and Mides in the north. Immediately to the north is the 800 m long Tamerza Lake.
The oasis attracts many tourists who stop here as part of day tours through southern Tunisia.
The place was already known in antiquity as the Roman outpost (″ Tripolitanus Ad Torres ″) and was part of the North African Limes. In 1969 the old village was destroyed by a river flood after heavy rains.
On February 11, 1995, six Tunisian border guards were killed nearby, probably by a command of an Islamist group ( GIA ) from Algeria.
The P16 road connects the town with Chebika in the south.
