Mides is a Tunisian mountain oasis near the border with Algeria , northwest of Tozeur .

It is located in the mountains of Djebel En Negueb , a southeastern foothill of the Aurès and part of the Atlas Mountains. There are other mountain oases nearby: Tamerza six kilometers in the south and Chebika in the southeast. A few kilometers south is the 800 m long Tamerza Lake.

The oasis attracts many tourists who stop here as part of day tours through southern Tunisia.

On the Algerian border lies the impressive Mides Canyon, a three kilometer long gorge cut deep into the surrounding mountains.

The place was already known in ancient times as a Roman outpost and part of the North African Limes. In 1969 the old village was destroyed by floods after heavy rains.

A small road connects the place with Tamerza in the south.

Parts of the films Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Fort Saganne (1984) and The English Patient (1996) were shot in the area.
