Société belge d'étude des phenomènes spatiaux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SOBEPS is an acronym for Société belge d'étude des phénomènes spatiaux (Belgian Society for the Study of Space Phenomena).

It was a UFO research group, made famous by researching the Belgian UFO wave in 1989 and 1990. The society was founded in 1971 and had 700 registered members by the end of the year. The offices were located in the premises of General Secretary Lucien Clerebaut . The main activity in 1972 was the publication of Inforespace magazine . In 1976 the number of members grew to 1750 and Clerebaut bought a building in Anderlecht for the company . After that the membership began to decline; except for 500 members in 1985. From then on, Inforespace only appeared twice a year instead of the previous six times. In November 1989, after the Belgian UFO wave , countless witness reports reached the SOBEPS. The company began working with the Belgian Air Force in April 1990 on unsuccessful UFO hunting. Due to financial difficulties, SOBEPS disbanded on December 31, 2007, and COPEBS ( Comité Belge pour l'Étude des Phénomènes Spatiaux or Belgian Committee for the Study of Space Phenomena ).
