The Société des Brasseries et Glacières Internationales (BGI) is a French company active in the beverage industry. It belongs to the Groupe Castel . The company operates 41 breweries in 20 countries in Africa . (As of 2014)

history

The company Brasseries et Glacières d'Indochine (BGI) (breweries and ice cream factories of Indochina) was founded by the house of Denis Frères from Bordeaux . Further foundings were in 1919 the “Brasseries du Maroc” in Morocco and the “Brasseries et glacières d'Algérie” in Algeria , and in 1948 the “Brasseries du Cameroun” in Cameroon . In 1954 the "Compagnie fermière de l'établissement thermal de Vichy" was bought and the Brasseries et Glacières du Laos were founded , and in 1967 the "Brasseries du Niger" in the Republic of Niger .

The group name Brasseries et Glacières Internationales was adopted in 1975. Through its subsidiary Union Breweries, it took control of the Pelforth breweries in 1980 . In 1990 the Castel Group acquired BGI. Under this one took control of the company Société de limonaderies et brasseries d'Afrique (SOLIBRA) in Abidjan , Ivory Coast in 1994 . Together with SABMiller , they form a duopoly in the African beer market.

BGI is one of the ten largest brewery groups in the world.
