Light trough

A softbox is a foldable light trough , that is, a surface light that is used for evenly illuminating motifs. A hard box , however, is a light tank with solid sides. Light troughs are used when very even, flat light is required in photography, e.g. B. when shooting reflective curved surfaces such as eyeglass lenses. Light troughs are also used in portrait photography for uniform illumination.

A softbox is an attachment to the flash head of a flash system . They are typically made of fabric, lined on the inside with reflective material to reflect the flash light, and emit the flash light through a mostly square, rectangular or octagonal diffuser .
