history
Softline AG was founded in 1983 by Peer Blumenschein. In the years up to 2000, Softline AG was a “box mover” for PC software and began online distribution.
On February 14, 2000, Softline AG went public on the Neuer Markt in Frankfurt. In 2001 the company acquired the British Rapid Group and the Swiss company Trade Up. In the same year it introduced the own brands WSKA and Orlogix. In 2003 Softline AG switched to the General Standard of Deutsche Börse AG. She sold Rapid Plc, England, Softline Benelux BV, Netherlands, NPR Software Ltd., Ireland and WSKA SA, France and founded Trade Up Distribution GmbH, Offenburg. With the sale of the Swiss subsidiary in 2005, the company concentrated on the core market of Germany. Company founder and supervisory board member Peer Blumenschein withdrew as a major shareholder from Softline AG in 2006. In 2007 Maily Distribution GmbH was taken over 100 percent, Softline AG also acquired a 60% stake in Prometheus GmbH. Christoph Harvey was appointed as the new CEO in 2008. In that year TradeUp and Maily merged to form TradeMail Distribution GmbH, which was sold in 2009.
In 2010 the company took over the Norwegian Stover AS and founded Softline Solutions Netherlands BV and Softline Solutions GmbH. The headquarters of the group were relocated to Leipzig. In addition, Softline AG took over 100% of Prometheus GmbH in 2010. In the same year the company took over the French STR (Software Technology Resources) SAS and the Belgian company ASIST BVBA. She also founded the Belgian Softline Solutions NV and the German Softline Systems & Services GmbH. In mid-2012 the activities in Norway were not pursued any further. XPERTLINK GmbH was founded as a 100% subsidiary of Prometheus GmbH. For strategic reasons, the subsidiary ASIST BVBA was spun off from the group in July 2013, but will continue to be a partner of the Softline Group.
In October 2013 Softline AG announced the appointment of a new member of the Supervisory Board. The previous chairman of the supervisory board, Bernhard von Minckwitz, stepped down for health reasons. He was followed by Knut Löschke, who has been one of the most important investors and sponsors of Softline AG since 2010, was in the meantime a member of the board and most recently accompanied Softline as a consultant.
Since April 2014, Martin Schaletzky has headed the company together with an operational management team from the respective companies in Germany and abroad.
In May 2014 Softline AG announced the separation from the subsidiary Softline Systems & Services GmbH, which due to its field of activity as a provider of data center solutions no longer corresponds to the strategic orientation of the Softline Group. The Softline Group is thus continuing its focus on the core business areas of Software Asset Management (SAM) and IT Consulting.
In March 2017, Prometheus GmbH was renamed Softline Services GmbH.
Today, Softline AG has six subsidiaries with a focus on software asset management, information and IT security, cloud & future data centers and digital workplaces.
