The play is set in Moscow in the mid-1920s during the NEP . So that her large 6-room apartment is not expropriated, the formerly wealthy 35-year-old Soja Pelz officially opens a “sample tailor with training company”. In the evening, your house also becomes an establishment where discreet encounters can take place. Soya's lover Obolyaninov, a former count, lends a hand, as does the impostor Amethystov. Soy hopes to make enough money to go to France. Various existences from the early Soviet years gather in Soja's apartment, including the influential Boris Semjonowitsch Fuchs, the commercial director of the trust for refractory metals. One evening he recognizes his lover Alla among the scantily clad employees. A chain of events finally leads to the murder of Fuchs. The scene is broken up by the criminal police and Soja arrested.
