Thomas Reschke
Thomas Reschke (born June 4, 1932 in Danzig ) is a German literary translator .
Life
Thomas Reschke escaped with his family in Ludwigslust in Mecklenburg in September 1945 . He attended high school there, where he passed his matriculation examination in 1951 . He then completed at the Berlin Humboldt University a study of Slavonic Studies , which he with the 1955 level completed a degree in Slavic. From 1955 to 1990 Reschke worked as an editor and lecturer in the GDR publishers “Culture and Progress” and “ People and World ”. In 1956 he began translating literary works from Russian . He has been a freelance translator since 1990 . Reschke lives in Berlin .
Thomas Reschke is one of the most productive German Russian translators of the second half of the twentieth century . He translates novels , books for children and young people as well as plays ; He was particularly prominent as a translator of the majority of Mikhail Bulgakov's works .
Thomas Reschke was a member of the GDR Writers' Association from 1965 to 1990 . He is also a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . Reschke was awarded the F. C. Weiskopf Prize in the GDR in 1975 ; In 1987 he received the Maxim Gorky Prize of the Soviet Writers' Union . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , he received the translation prize of the German Youth Literature Prize in 1992 for his translation of Anatoly I. Pristawkin's work “Wir Kuckuckskinder” , in 2000 a Federal Cross of Merit and in 2001 the translation prize of the Kunststiftung NRW in recognition of his life's work .
