Gabriele Leupold

Gabriele Leupold (born March 11, 1954 in Niederlahnstein ) is a German translator .

Life

Gabriele Leupold's parents were expellees : the father, who has a doctorate in mathematics, came from Upper Silesia , the mother from East Prussia . She studied Slavic Studies in Mainz , Göttingen and Konstanz (among others with Renate Lachmann ) and German studies . In 1981/82 a DAAD graduate scholarship for Lomonossow University in Moscow followed . She then worked at the University of Konstanz . From 1985 she stayed in Japan for a year , where she taught German as a foreign language at Fukui University . After her return to Germany , she worked for a Berlin gallery .

In the mid-1980s she began translating literary, philosophical and artistic texts from Russian and Polish . She is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . In 2018/19 she was visiting professor for poetics of translation at the Free University of Berlin . She leads workshops and organizes events for translators and students.

She is the sister of the writer Dagmar Leupold .
