Sergei Alexandrovich Snegov

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sergey Snegov ( Russian Сергей Александрович Снегов ; actually Sergei Jossifowitsch stone * July 23 . Jul / 5. August  1910 greg. In Odessa , † 26 February 1994 in Kaliningrad ) was a Soviet scientist and author of the present and of Science Fiction literature.

Life

Snegov's father was Alexander Isidorovich Koserjuk, a member of the Bolsheviks , who left the family early and was deputy chief of the secret service in Rostov after the revolution in the 1920s . In his second marriage, Snegov's mother was married to the Odessa journalist Joseph Stein (hence the second patronymic ). Sergei Snegov studied in Odessa and worked as an engineer in Leningrad . He was arrested in 1936 for alleged deviations from Marxism and sentenced to ten years in a labor camp in Moscow . He was involved in the development of Soviet nuclear weapons as a scientist and political prisoner in a closed, military research institute. After his release he worked in a mining combine in Norilsk before he was rehabilitated in 1955. Since 1958 he lived with his family in Kaliningrad .

He began to write in the late 1950s and published his first science fiction novel "Тридцать два обличья профессора Крена" in 1964. As an author of SF literature, he was only part of the second guard in his home country, but he achieved a certain degree in German-speaking countries, especially in the GDR , with his trilogy of novels "Люди как Боги" (1966–1977, German people like gods ) Cult status. This is a so-called space opera , a genre that was otherwise not published in East Germany. It was not until the 1980s that a new generation of SF authors in the GDR followed in Snegow's footsteps and also primarily wrote action-oriented SF stories.

The volumes were received quite differently in the Soviet Union. Because of his uncertain political status - he had spoken contrary to official policy in the Sinyawski affair - Snegov was noticed rather casually. In addition to “People like Gods”, he wrote other SF novels, but also crime thrillers, non-fiction books about Soviet nuclear physicists, autobiographical stories and memories of life in Norilsk and in the labor camp.

In 1984 he was awarded the Aelita Prize for the trilogy .

In 2010 a new edition of the above was published by Wilhelm Heyne Verlag . Romans ( ISBN 978-3-453-52519-1 ).
