Aelita Prize

The Aelita Prize ( Russian Премия "Аэлита" ) is a Russian literary prize for achievements in the field of fantastic literature. It was founded in 1981 by the literary magazine Uralsky Sledopyt ( Уральский следопыт ) and the Association of Russian Writers ( Союз писателей РСФСР ). The award is named after Alexei Tolstoy's science fiction novel Aelita , published in 1923 .

The prize is on the year in Yekaterinburg (to 1991 Sverdlovsk ) from Uralski Sledopyt organized Aelita Festival awarded. The recipient of the award is determined by a jury. Originally the award was given for the best book published in the previous two years; since a change in the award rules in 1997, awards have been made for the entire work of a writer.

In addition to the main prize, four additional prizes have been introduced over the years:

  • the Ivan Yefremov Prize for contributions to the development of Russian fantasy (awarded since 1987)
  • the Start Prize for the best literary debut (awarded since 1989)
  • the Witali Bugrow Prize for editorial, bibliographic and literary critical work (awarded since 1997)
  • the Igor Chalymbadscha Order of the Knights of Fantasticism for contributions to the development of Russian fan culture (awarded since 2002)
