Olga Nikolaevna Larionova
Olga Nikolajewna Larionowa ( Russian Ольга Николаевна Ларионова , maiden name Olga Nikolajewna Tiedemann ; born March 16, 1935 in Leningrad ) is a Russian writer and science fiction author of the Soviet Union .
Life
Born as Olga Nikolajewna Tiedemann, the author grew up in Leningrad, survived the blockade there and studied nuclear physics at the Faculty of Physics at the State University of Leningrad before switching to geophysics and then to the physics of metals. While still a student, she published her first story Киска in 1964 and only worked for a few years as a research engineer at the Institute for Metallurgy and Welding Technology. Her first novel, The Leopard from Kilimanjaro , was published in 1965. In it, the wish to know one's own date of death comes true. After a journey through time, this is the only information that is brought back from the future. Many think that this knowledge can help in shaping life, but it turns out to be a mistake. The sure knowledge of one's own death turns out to be a nightmare for most and puts people's morals to a severe test. The novel was a great success and has been translated into several languages; Olga Larionova has been a freelance writer since 1967 and has lived in Moscow since 2000 . In 1987 she received the renowned Aelita Prize (for Соната моря ) and in 2001 the Странник Prize. In addition to stories and powest , her work also includes the extensive, nine-volume novel cycle Zodiac Signs .
